WINDOW OF TIME

Design for Real Life/Science was our first project at level 6. It provided an insight into socially responsible design and professional practice by offering a client-based communication problem. I worked with Stroke Hub Wales on this project, helping them to consolidate the idea to ‘ACT FAST’ as well as informing people on the symptoms and the long term effects a stroke can have. The key message for this brief was time; really confirming this notion to act quickly. Therefore, I based my outcomes on a ‘window of time’. The phrase was used in one of our first client calls which triggered the whole design idea for me, the window being a strong visual to communicate the need to act fast when it comes to stroke.

WINDOW OF TIME

Dylunio ar gyfer Bywyd Go Iawn/Gwyddoniaeth oedd ein prosiect cyntaf ar lefel 6. Darparodd gipolwg ar ddylunio sy'n seiliedig ar gyfrifoldeb cymdeithasol ac ymarfer proffesiynol drwy gynnig problem gyfathrebu ar gyfer cleient. Gweithiais gyda Hwb Strôc Cymru ar y prosiect hwn, gan ei helpu i atgyfnerthu'r syniad bod angen gweithredu'n gyflym ('ACT FAST') yn ogystal â hysbysu pobl am symptomau ac effeithiau hirdymor strôc. Y brif neges ar gyfer y briff hwn oedd amser; gan gadarnhau o ddifrif y cysyniad hwn i weithredu'n gyflym. Felly, seiliais fy nghanlyniadau ar 'ffenestr amser'. Defnyddiwyd yr ymadrodd yn un o'n galwadau cyntaf â'r cleient, gan ysgogi'r syniad dylunio cyfan i mi, gyda'r ffenestr yn elfen weledol gref i gyfleu'r angen i weithredu'n gyflym mewn perthynas â strôc.

DOODLING PERIL

Being a designer who favours low-tech and tangible methods of working, I naturally based my dissertation on the tactile act of doodling. Doodling may seem like an unimportant day-to-day ritual that some perform during work or as an act of recreation, however, it is a practice with a significant history and meaning. In my investigation, I examined whether pervasive information technologies have affected the practice in the modern world, discussing ideas such as mindfulness, flow, visual thinking, digital worlds and empowerment. In my dissertation design I was able to apply my preferred tangible design processes such as mark-making and illustration to create something fun which clearly depicts the ideas I had discussed in my writing.

DOODLING PERIL

Fel dylunydd, mae'n well gennyf ddulliau gweithio technoleg isel a diriaethol, felly'n naturiol roedd fy nhraethawd hir yn seiliedig ar weithred ddiriaethol dwdlan. Gellid ystyried dwdlan fel arfer beunyddiol di-bwys y bydd rhai yn ei gyflawni wrth weithio neu fel gweithgaredd hamdden, ond mae hanes ac ystyr pwysig yn gysylltiedig â'r arfer.  Yn ystod fy ymchwiliad, ystyriais a yw technolegau gwybodaeth darbwyllol wedi effeithio ar yr arfer yn y byd modern, gan drafod syniadau fel ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar, llif, meddwl gweledol, bydoedd digidol a grymuso. Yn fy nyluniad traethawd hir, llwyddais i ddefnyddio fy hoff brosesau dylunio diriaethol fel gwneud marciau a darlunio i greu rhywbeth hwyliog sy'n dangos yn glir y syniadau a drafodwyd gennyf yn fy ngwaith ysgrifenedig.
